Minimally Invasive Valve Therapy

Treating a valve without opening the chest

Instead of open chest surgery, physicians reach the valve through a thin tube called a catheter — usually threaded in through a blood vessel near the groin. The new valve is guided into place while your heart keeps beating, with no chest incision and no heart-lung machine.

Most patients are up and walking the next day, and home within two to three days.

Who It’s For

Originally for people considered too high-risk for open chest surgery. Today it also reaches patients who could have surgery but want a faster recovery, and outcomes are often as good or better.

Why You May Not Have Heard of It

These procedures are newer, and not every hospital has physicians who perform them. Training varies, and referrals often stop at a hospital’s own capabilities. It usually isn’t anyone’s fault — but it means the answer you get depends on who you ask.

Where Clinical Trials Fit

A clinical trial is a supervised study of a treatment that isn’t yet widely approved. When no cleared device exists for your valve, a trial can be the way to reach receive care earlier.

Who Built This

A physician, a philanthropist, and a digital team working to close the information gap

The Heart Information Portal (HIP) is an independent initiative of NexVal Medical, a nonprofit dedicated to improving access to minimally invasive valve therapies.

Many patients are never told these alternatives exist — or don’t know how to find a location that performs them.

We are not a medical provider. We are in information resource. We don’t bill insurance, we don’t take money from device makers, and we have no financial stake in what you decide. That is what lets us help you identify a center that could be an option for your care needs.

Philanthropic and Fully Independent NexVal Medical is not affiliated with any medical device manufacturer.

How the HIP Helps

Before you accept “nothing more can be done”

With valve disease, the answer you get may depend on who you ask.

NexVal Centers

The NexVal Center Commitment

Through AI, the HIP maps every center offering transcatheter valve therapies in the United States.

A NexVal Center has agreed to a set of commitments to patients who arrive through the HIP. NexVal Centers have committed to providing a designated point of contact and to accepting requests for case review from individuals who are not already patients in their systems. If they cannot provide the requested service, they have committed to helping patients explore other centers or clinical trials.

That last commitment is unusual. Most referral pathways end where a hospital’s own capabilities end.

NexVal Centers are not a clinical ranking or accreditation — they are centers that have agreed to these patient commitments.

Clinical Trials

Explore clinical trials for minimally invasive transcatheter heart valve procedures.

Valve disease research is rapidly advancing. Verified trials give eligible patients access to next-generation transcatheter valve therapies, mitral repair devices, and structural heart registries — matched to your diagnosis and preferred location.
